Based in Manchester Central Library the Archives+ partnership builds on the appetite and demand for accessible community history and personal heritage..     The vision. The Archives+ initiative, funded by the HLF, should deliver a state-of-the-art, digitally interactive archive of family records, historic registers, local history, the North West Film Archive, and specialist records from across the region, bringing together and integrating Manchester’s largest and most important archives under one roof. The Manchester Archives and Local Studies incorporates the Greater Manchester County Record Office (GMCRO). The service was established in by the former Greater Registers in Manchester archives & local studies County Council and, sincehas been based in a textile warehouse in Marshall Street.

GM Lives is our searchable archives catalogue. It is a website which lets you find information about local history books, maps and photographs held by local history libraries within Greater Manchester.

It also includes descriptions of family, community, organisational, church, business and local authority archives. This collection covers records from the Diocese of Manchester held by the Manchester Archives and Local Studies. The parishes are mainly from the historic county of Lancashire, with a few parishes from Cheshire and Yorkshire.

Parish registers contain births. Manchester Archives and Local Studies, Manchester Central Library, hold copies of the manuscripts. The contents list published by the Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society is a good starting point for a dsecription of their contents.
